The Hour of Mercy
This image titled "The Hour of Mercy" was painted in 1997 by artist Tommy Canning from Scotland.
"This was one of my earliest paintings and my first serious attempt at painting the crucifixion. This commission was requested to depict the moment the Roman centurion pierces the side of Christ with a lance.Ā Ā Not only was it to illustrate that moment in the gospel, but also to show a reference to the rays of blood and water that emanate from the Heart of Christ as seen in the image of Divine Mercy.
āAt three oāclock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passionā (Diary of St Maria Faustina, 1320)
